I've been experiencing temperatures over 80°C while gaming and struggling to decide whether to upgrade my CPU cooler. After an hour of play, the room gets quite hot, making it uncomfortable. Should I invest in a better AIO model? It seems like the issue isn't resolved by turning PBO off, which someone mentioned helped before. I've looked at around 20 fan options and recommendations, but I'm unsure which one fits best. Here are my current specs for reference: CPU – AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, GPU – ASUS ROG Strix RTX 3080, 10GB Gundam Edition, cooler – Noctua NH-D15 Chromax, RAM – G.Skill Trident Z Neo 32GB (2x16) at 3600MHz, case – Fractal Design Meshify 2, PSU – Corsair RM850. I've added three Corsair QL140 fans and placed another above the cooler to expel hot air, but results aren't improving. Let me know!
Even when CPU temperatures decrease, the heat production remains constant. Think of it this way: I pour 1 liter of water into a tall glass versus a wide glass. The amounts differ despite appearances. The heat output stays the same, and your room won’t suddenly cool down.
How intense is your PBO configuration? I'm checking this since I have a 5950x with a Fuma 2, which means higher heat generation and reduced cooling, and my CPU usually stays around 87°C even at full load.
Using aio will only add 10 minutes before reaching stable temperatures, while the room temperature remains unchanged. You can achieve stability by lowering the CPU temperatures through undervolting (using a curve optimizer). Most 5900x models can reach stable temps between -20 to -15 negative offset, and the CPU cooler may be absorbing heat from the 3080s backplate. You can also undervolt the GPU with MSI Afterburner and adjust the curve for better control.
I believe avoiding its use in automatic mode isn't wise. Either turn it off or adjust it manually yourself.
