Consider switching to AM5 if it offers better performance and features, otherwise stick with the best AM4 option.

Right, so CPU's are the same, DDR5 is $50 more expensive, and motherboards are $100 more? $150 more for AM5. Now you need to figure out if that is worth it to YOU.
They cost the same amount I don’t understand how you’re getting the 100 for the motherboard. Since I already own one, it’s 250 bucks to upgrade my new AM5 motherboard. 400(7700x)+160(ddr5 ram)+250(motherboard)=810 400(5800x3d)+130(ddr4 ram)=530 810-530=280
I didn't pay much attention to the 3600xt option—it seemed like something you might have overlooked. I'm not great at reading, so I'd go with a 5800x3d to boost memory. Should we focus on swapping your RAM instead of just adding more? Or maybe you can skip this model since the 3600xt isn't bad? Increasing the resolution will shift more load to the GPU and less to the CPU, reducing strain.
I’m unsure whether I need a new kit or just more RAM. My usage isn’t heavy on video games, but I play many strategy titles like Total War that demand a lot of CPU power. I also don’t want to limit myself to just the 3080.
Are you close to using 14-15GB of RAM? I’m open to increasing it if needed, but only if necessary. What’s your current setup? It might not be worth the upgrade unless you really need more. Right now, you probably have less than 16GB, so adding another 16GB would bring it up to 32GB. This won’t cause any performance issues with the 3080 at 1440p or 4k, and even at 1080p you’ll maintain solid frame rates.
I'm at 16 atmospheres but I use many mods, so the RAM is nearer 14-15.
OP, grab a 5800x3d and a budget 32GB DDR4. Black Friday is coming up, so you might want to wait for that.
Thread ends with this remark. Don’t forget the early adopt tax, DDR5 latency, etc. Honestly, if you're after a stronger gaming CPU, go for the 5800XD. It handles games as well as or better than the AM5 models and will save you a lot of money compared to upgrading to a new platform.
