I’m checking out switching to a 3080 because GPU prices have fallen. I’m also considering moving to the 7700x or 5800x3d CPUs. Their prices are almost identical, but upgrading to an AMD Ryzen 5 would add about $400. From my perspective, it’s an investment, but is spending another $400 on a chip that doesn’t seem to offer much extra performance in games?

It really depends on your update cycle, are you the kind that actively looking for upgrades? Waiting for deals, or just want the newest thing on the market. If you do not see yourself upgrading your system in the next 3 years, get the 5800x3d. If you see yourself upgrading as soon as a deal comes up, it could be 1 year or 2, then go with 7700x.

I’d definitely opt for a 5800X3D regardless of the situation. The prices on AM5 boards are really high right now. They shouldn’t keep rising. LGA 1700 shows this trend clearly—early boards cost around $400–500 for mid-to-high-end models, while today’s Z690 Master is selling for $300 or less at various places. Soon you’ll need a faster CPU than the 5800X3D, and cheaper options will become available (either older models or brand new ones). DDR5 prices are also dropping, so you’ll save money overall without sacrificing performance.

With a microcenter like the 7700x, the distinction lies mainly in the 7700x side. Their free RAM offer cuts costs by $190. On a B650 board, you're in a tight race. Adding $400 for AM5 could tip the scales. Are you focusing only on the x670 model?

What additional funds are you considering? Which components are you evaluating?

Fascinating, it was there the day before instead of today. I’m hoping my booking from yesterday was accepted, or they might not follow through if I actually collect it tomorrow. We’ll find out.

You're checking the B650 and need Wi-Fi instead of Ethernet because your room lacks ports. You're planning for around 250 ports and aiming for about 32GB of RAM, which would bring the total closer to 150.

The 5800x3D costs more than the 7700x by $50. That means you lose $100 on the motherboard and $50 on RAM. But if you subtract those from the price difference, you end up with a net gain of $100? What’s really going on?

They match the price GameStop offers for 400. I think I’ll probably upgrade to 32GB of RAM, which isn’t that much cheaper than DDR5 32GB.
