Hi everyone. I’m considering switching to a B550 or x570 board and wanted to clarify some points before making the change. I’m currently running an MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX, and I’ve seen discussions on Reddit suggesting against mixing Ryzen 3000 chips with B450s because of power consumption issues. This worries me since I plan to upgrade to a 5800X soon. Will my motherboard handle that upgrade without trouble? Thanks.

Ensure your BIOS is updated; this should resolve the issue. The B450 Tommahawk works well with a 5800x processor.

You're okay with a high-end max board if you update your BIOS, but this one isn't particularly strong, so avoid heavy overclocking. What are your main goals for the setup? For gaming, you'd likely choose a 5600x. A 5800x uses a lot of power, gets very hot and cooling becomes an issue, and doesn't offer much value.

I considered a 5800x resolution and wondered if it would suit my setup with three monitors, especially since more cores might not be crucial.

They seem unsure about the setup. A 3090 might be better, but an 850W unit should suffice unless you're certain about the system. Avoid suggesting 1000W power supplies without proper understanding of the PC.

It seems the issue is likely related to the GPU or the software. The number of CPU cores shouldn't be the main problem here.
