I've been considering if selling and upgrading my desktop PC to a high-end gaming laptop would be a good idea. My current specs are a Ryzen 5 3600 with an RX 570 4GB, while laptops range from 1200 to 1500 with AMD and 3060 configurations. This is mainly on my mind because I'm planning to move into my own space soon. The portability would be nice, and the power efficiency could help with electricity costs when I'm managing my own home.

If you want portability, consider it, but keep in mind there are uncommon compromises. For the same price as a desktop, you receive much poorer setups, component issues and damage become more serious, and upgrade options are largely lost.

Truth ^^^^
I notice numerous complaints about gaming laptops not functioning well.
They are often used while connected to power.
A frequent reason is thermal throttling.
Laptop coolers need to be compact and lightweight.
They are also generally not very powerful.

If you have a desktop, it's best. Laptops often break more easily—motherboards, screens, etc.—and fixing them can be costly. Purchasing a $2,000 laptop means you're also buying an $800 motherboard, even if it's four years old and fails. You should consider not just the price or speed, but also the reliability and ease of repairs when choosing a laptop.

Purchase a desktop if possible, as they are simpler to service, generate less heat, operate more quietly, and offer greater personalization.
