In my view, firewalls must remain physically distinct from all other components.
It was more about simplifying everything into one device since I believed virtualising the services would work. Right now I have my router, a Pi running on a Raspberry Pi, and another Pi for my IP camera setup. After watching some videos, it looked like I could combine all of them as VMs using Proxmox or Docker.
I could still be too late for the gathering, yet my setup runs an HP Elitedesk 800 G9 as the primary Proxmox node. It features an i5-12500T chipset, 64 GB RAM, and two m.2 NVME disks in a ZFS mirror. The system operates at about 12 watts. I host five VMs, twelve Docker containers, and two LXC instances. My regular CPU load stays under 2% because my tasks—WordPress, Nextcloud, Home Assistant, Cloudflare tunnels, Uptime Kuma, Heimdall, Groicy, Mealie, etc.—are not very demanding. I also have a dedicated NAS unit; adding a DAS array or external disks to one of these would be straightforward and allow launching your preferred NAS OS software.
