Upgrading your setup involves balancing performance and compatibility. With an i5-12400F, RTX 3050, and ASUS Prime B660M-A, a 5080 GPU would provide a noticeable boost for MSFS 2024, especially given your current VRAM-heavy workload. Since your PC is heavily gaming-oriented and you use a high-refresh monitor, keeping the GPU at High or Ultra settings is ideal.

For gaming stability and future-proofing, sticking with Intel might be safer unless you're comfortable with AMD's newer architectures. If you decide to upgrade the GPU, a 5080 is a solid choice for your needs. Regarding the CPU, an i5-12400F is adequate for gaming but could benefit from a mid-range option like the i5-13400 or i5-13400F if you want better multi-core performance. Avoid jumping to a high-end CPU unless you're targeting more demanding titles or future-proofing aggressively.

Check your CPU limits in MSFS 2024 with the 5080 and determine the difference.

Remember usage can stay below full capacity without reaching 100%.

The 9800X3D stands out as a significant improvement over the 12400F, especially for 1440p gaming, offering better performance and higher FPS potential. Replacing the 3050 with a 5080 would further boost capabilities, though it might still be constrained by CPU limits in certain titles. Performance isn't solely about top frame rates; maintaining stable performance at lower frames is equally crucial. The 14-game average with an RTX 4090 runs at 1080p, illustrating the balance between speed and consistency.

Increase the CPU speed. MSFS generally performs very well with L3 Cache.

I experienced a massive boost from my 7700x to the 9800X3D. Previously, I was achieving about 140 fps at 1440p with a 4080, but now I'm consistently hitting around 230 fps. It's impressive considering it wasn't a simple upgrade from a lower-end model. The performance jump was unexpected, especially since I didn't upgrade from a 3700x. HLL's optimization is lacking, and the 9800X3D seems to be pushing performance to its limits.

It was performed on an older MSFS 2020 release, not the newest build. I'm not sure if that affects the current situation. The i9-1900K functions as a space heater, operating very hot and being less power-efficient than the AMD alternatives.

The engine remains unchanged at the end. The 2024 update focused mainly on map generation and weather systems. The damage model is still in place, though I don’t personally notice any changes.

I'm using the sim, right? Should we stick with Intel or go AMD? I noticed this benchmark comparison is missing the 14900K. From what I see, the 9800X3D seems comparable to the 14900K or a bit slower.

It would be very difficult to determine from that chart because you're using DDR4, which tends to limit Raptor Lake performance if memory usage is high.
