But not with a 570... My argument is that you'd get a better value and performance by choosing a 3600/x and using the surplus to buy a 3070 in gaming. It's not about smart access here, and the GPU would probably give you higher FPS, though I haven't seen a 3060 benchmark and can't confirm exactly. A 5600x would be way too much for a 570 and wouldn't address bottlenecks effectively.

It's really noticeable that the 5600X offers about 40% higher IPC. That's a big improvement. It would make a huge difference even with a 570.

Strength comes from the weakest part. IPC loses meaning when the GPU is overworked and the CPU is barely running at 40%. CPUs are part of the team in a computer—along with GPU, RAM, and storage. If the GPU isn’t suitable for a 5600x while you’re getting a CPU built for something like a 2080ti or higher, it won’t perform well.

Improved by a significant amount—now averaging 40 frames per second at 1080p resolution.

I focused most of the year on 3D development, which wasn't just on a basic Ryzen—it was using newer, faster cards than older ones. That’s why it felt different. A 1700X is similar to playing with a 4.5ghz 2700K graphics card.

You're unlikely to notice low frame rates below 60fps when switching from 1700 to 5600X. My 2700X performs better than both my 8700K and a 3700X, while a 5600X likely offers 15-20% improvement over the 3 processors I mentioned earlier.

I might have overlooked the key point—it's a gaming PC, and even at 1080p RX570, the cores are more than enough for any task I'm not particularly into.

The response wasn't tailored to your needs. Focus on IPC—Instructions per clock cycle. It's a key factor when evaluating processors.

yes it does. so if 5600x has 40% better ipc than 1700, now you clock 5600x and 1700 both at 4ghz . After that it feels like your are playing with 1700 that is clocked at 5.6Ghz. But 5600X is also overclockable to over 4.5ghz. so 5600x is 1700 whit core clock of 6.3Ghz, but wait it does not end there. With 5600x you can get better memory. Also better cache. Better CCX layot + much more.

On a 570 it won't significantly raise the frame rate. The GPU is the main bottleneck. You're likely to see around 10-15 extra frames if you switch to 5600x. The difference becomes much larger with a strong GPU like 3080, where a jump from 1700 to 5600x can add 50-100% more FPS.
