Consider a stronger CPU for improved gaming performance. Plan to switch from a 4060ti 8GB to a 4070 12GB. You may need a better power supply since your current one is only 650W. This isn’t a bad CPU, just a desire to upgrade: no AMD chips required.

Only five CPUs surpass the 13700K(F) in gaming performance, followed by 14700K, 13900K, 14900K, 7950X3D, and 7800X3D. None of these represent a significant improvement, particularly when paired with a 4070 processor. Invest your upgrade budget into a better GPU, such as a 4070 Ti Super or 7900 XT, which will make a much bigger impact.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m curious—does 32GB of 3200MHz/16GB LPDDR4X RAM sound sufficient? Could I also go up to 64GB with a new card, or would I need another upgrade? From what I understand, when gaming I struggle with having too many apps open and it causes lag, even at low settings. The CPU upgrade was supposed to help, but I’m still wondering if the RAM capacity matters as much.

You are doing something insanely wrong if you're lagging on a top spec CPU. You'd have to be running 4K Ultra or 1080p/1440p higher than 90fps in games to lag the GPU you have. Even then, none of this is really a worthwhile upgrade. Sure you could go get a 4090 if you wanted more graphics performance, but only if you're doing 4Kp120, Raytracing or 1080p240 or something not typical like that. At any rate, if you want to upgrade the RAM, always max out the channels. So if you have 1 stick upgrade to two sticks of the same type and speed, if you have 2 sticks, upgrade to 4 sticks of the same speed and CL. As long as each channel has the same configuration it's usually fine, or if you don't want to risk it, buy 2 sticks of the largest type you want to use (eg 2x32) and if the old memory isn't stable with it, pull the old memory. This is how I wound up with 96 in my system . I don't typically see anything start using the memory above 32GB unless something like the web browser leaks memory (eg pages with auto-refreshing/infinite-scroll all do this, like twitter and discord.)

It's okay. I’d prefer something a bit quicker, which could improve performance a little, though that’s probably just an OS problem rather than a RAM issue.

They’re usually the videos or shows that slow down, not the game itself. With 4 sticks totaling 32GB, I was planning to use two 8GB sticks and see if they’d work with the setup. The RAM and clock speeds are already set, so I’m hoping it’ll run smoothly. The CPU is already overclocked, so adjusting core clock speeds might help reduce lag when streaming or playing. Would that actually make things better?

I need to review my drivers and see what's going on. I don't really enjoy playing Call of Duty, but I tried it yesterday with a friend and even at low settings I experienced stuttering. Since I have good internet and use an Ethernet connection, I think the issue isn’t my network. That’s probably why this nice PC is acting up for me—maybe it's related to an update in Call of Duty. Other triple A games like Battlefield work fine, so it could be something with a recent patch.

When it's already overclocked, you might experience thermal throttling, slowing performance. Check idle and load temperatures, and consider cooling solutions like a cooler.

I upgraded to a Kraken 240mm AIO about a week ago. Under heavy load it seems I reached the 80s, and idle is around 24 rpm. The 80s usually happened during A cinebench session, often while playing games where I hit up to 60 or so now. On the forums I’m maxing out at 28c. Edited February 5, 2024 by Windexerr

What a puzzling situation! Those cards seem surprisingly affordable for such high memory capacities. It’s hard to believe there are options like that.
