The two FortiGates you mentioned aren’t reliable options. The FortiGate 80 you referenced dates back to 2004 and became obsolete in 2013, lacking gigabit Ethernet ports. A firewall without recent security updates for nearly a decade isn’t worth the investment. The FortiGate 80c offers improved performance but only supports 100Mbps ports for switched connections—insufficient for high-speed needs. You’d want something faster if you plan to expand your network. The SonicWall NSA220 is still supported and features gigabit ports, though I have no firsthand experience with their products. The SonicWall TZ300 appears to be in support and supports higher speeds, but I’m uncertain about its reliability. The Sophos RED 15 seems to receive updates until August 2023, with a reported maximum throughput of 90Mbps—potentially inadequate for modern demands. The Ubiquiti USG Pro 4 might be a decent fit, though I personally prefer not to endorse it. All the devices you’re considering are second-hand, so keep that in mind. Overall, investing in a firewall offers little extra protection compared to basic home routers, especially when considering the limited lifespan of these units.
