Hello everyone, I just assembled a new PC. Don't worry about motherboards—I used a placeholder and originally had a 2700x that failed because the pins bent. *Mistakes happen when thermal paste sticks too tightly* – it’s a rookie error I’m learning from. Here’s what I found:
PCPartPicker lists the parts I needed. The CPU is an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-core processor, priced at £267 on Amazon UK. The motherboard is an ASRock B450 Pro4 ATX AM4 board for £80.99 from CCL Computers. For memory, I got a Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3000 with 16GB (2x8GB) at £74.48 from Amazon UK. Storage includes an ADATA SU630 240GB SSD for £33.92 and two Western Digital drives: a 500GB M.2 NVME drive for £97.15 and a 1TB M.2 drive for £39.96.
I also added a Seagate Barracuda 500GB 3.5" drive for £25.46. The case is a MasterBox Lite 5 RGB ATX mid-tower at £90.23, and the power supply is a Corsair RM (2019) 750W unit with Gold certification.
I made some adjustments—reaching 4.2GHz across all cores with PBO—and the stock cooler kept temps around 60-70°C, which seems reasonable. The images below show the current setup after changes. My hard drives come from my previous system.
From an optimization perspective, the software side looks solid. On the hardware front, consider these improvements: - CPU cooler. Your processor is heating up significantly. Switching to a better cooler will extend its speed and prevent throttling. Tower-style heat sinks are budget-friendly, though you can opt for a 240mm AIO if you prefer. - RAM. Your motherboard supports up to 3200MHz when paired with a Matisse CPU (Ryzen 3000 series). While the gain isn’t huge, it can still enhance performance slightly over your current 3000MHz RAM. Optional hardware upgrades (may cost more): - Motherboard. X570 models are tuned for Matisse CPUs, so this could boost performance. Pairing with 3600MHz RAM would provide a noticeable lift. If you’re looking for better power delivery, consider an X470 motherboard with stronger VRM.
Getting an X-570-F Strixx with a 360 Coolermaster AIO and a fresh Fractal Define 7 case should really boost the airflow for this CPU. I was worried about the stock cooler, but pushing it to 4.4GHz all cores at 1.25v helped keep things under control, barely avoiding overheating. Now I’m hoping a better chip will allow even higher speeds!
