Considering an upgrade to a newer setup, I’m evaluating options around the 4790k system. Microcenter recently lowered the R9 3900x price to $399. I appreciate the reliability of my current hardware, which has lasted over five years. I’m aiming for a longer-lasting solution than budget CPUs like the Ryzen 5. A bundle with the ASUS ROG Strix X570-E and R9 3900x is appealing at $679.00. From what I understand, the 10700k is a step up from the 9900k, which makes my decision more challenging due to the price drop.
The R9 really stands out in other areas, offering better longevity than the upcoming 10700K since it uses a design from 2015. It also has fewer security issues over time. You usually play at around 3900X, though I’m considering the 10700K as well since it offers better overall performance. The value might drop a bit if you don’t take advantage of the AM4 platform when newer Zen chips arrive. Still, Intel’s pure gaming power stands out—like, a 9900K is noticeably faster than the 3900X in most cases, and that gap should widen with the 10700K. If prices matched, I’d suggest the 10700K for gaming.
I should have mentioned that. The 1440p at 144Hz also looks good with the RTX 3700 or RTX 3600 based on price and performance tests. My concern is that the 10700k might work slightly better and could be more affordable than what I'm considering.
It seems the upcoming Intel series adopts the 1200 socket. I'm wondering if it might be pricier or face component shortages, which could affect availability. Ideally, Intel would be my choice since I favor LGA pins on motherboards over PGA pins on CPUs. However, with microcenter deals and potential higher costs, it's making me reconsider.
