Consider other options besides PFSense for gaming needs.
Consider other options besides PFSense for gaming needs.
Hey there, I'm currently using PFSense as my home router. I really appreciate what it offers—great features and the ability to separate my network from certain services. The main issue I'm facing is that I and my brother can't play games together simultaneously. Recently, we tried BO3 with a friend, but both had strict NAT settings. After some research on YouTube and Reddit, I found a solution that lets one computer have a moderate NAT. However, once my brother logged in, I lost access to the online services. It seems the problem was port conflicts. Now I'm looking for an alternative to PFSense that still supports segmentation and VLANs without the UPnP and gaming headaches. I've been considering the Ubiquiti Edgerouter X, but I'd love some advice on software options since I already have a hardware setup I like. Any suggestions would be great, or if you've had success with PFSense, I'm open to helping fix it. Thanks!
Clients typically choose a random port for outgoing links, and servers should manage many clients connecting without issues. It seems their system may dislike connections originating from the same public IP. Do you use individual accounts or a shared one?
We each had our own accounts. Around six months ago, before installing the new router, everything worked fine and the game played smoothly. Open NAT and all that.
Your current version is 2.6.0, and I'll check if this is the one associated with the issue you're experiencing.
I agree, it was the 2.7.0 update mentioned in the changelog that addressed the issue.
I haven't used it before, though I've heard some suggest it's not free anymore. Others have recommended it despite that.
