My PC is well-equipped with solid specs. I’m using it for VR and have sold my headset because the experience isn’t great. The games I play run smoothly on my current setup, especially at 5800x3d with a B450 or X570. I’m not sure if downgrading is necessary, but I should double-check compatibility before making any changes.

You might lower your expectations because modern hardware often feels unnecessary right now. It’s not about wasting money, but about preparing for future needs without overspending.

I make money by trading used downgrades, which lets me invest in other opportunities. I enjoy challenging games like God of War, but they require more GPU power than CPU.

In my opinion, switching to an older system might be too drastic and could lead to higher costs later. It also seems likely that the 4090 won't perform at its best (I'm not entirely confident the 5800x3d would keep up with it). Your current configuration appears sufficient, and it would be wiser to remain there for now before making any changes.

I think I don’t plan to upgrade in the future. This is my final stage (hopefully). I’m aiming to phase out gaming gradually. I’ll likely reduce the GPU soon, but not too soon—time isn’t right yet.

You really don’t have to lower your expectations completely. If you need the funds, feel free to go your own way since we can’t force a choice. I’d keep the CPU in stock—using it for resale is tougher and even transport cases might warp things. It’s just a lot of hassle many times, and it’s a solid chip that won’t fail soon. For selling, consider the motherboard plus a GPU, aiming for a B650, 4080, or 7900X for premium options (around $1000–$1200) or something like the 4070 Super or an RX 7800 XT for a decent card worth $500–$600.

It's already a top-tier gaming PC. It boasts one of the strongest GPUs around—probably second only to the 5090, though it's more affordable than some alternatives. Its CPU is also among the best globally (the 9800x3d fits right in). If you stick with it and upgrade just a couple of tiers in graphics cards, you'll still enjoy an incredible machine.

If you don’t need the equipment much, moving to a lower-mid range might suit you better. I still believe going for an am4 model isn’t ideal, but a B650 with a 7600/7700 + 7700xt would be my suggestion. Staying with the hardware until it’s outdated seems like the smart choice, though it might not be the most practical if you could invest in something else instead.

You mentioned sticking with the AM5 architecture but avoiding an AMD GPU. I understand you're open to refurbished components but still need NVENC and ShadowPlay support. A used 3060 or similar low-power model seems like a good fit. You were considering a handheld console such as the ROG Z1 or Steam Deck. Regarding the choice between the 7700 and 7600, the 7700 is more expensive—double the cost of the 7600—so it’s worth weighing that against your budget and performance needs.

in the future you will regret this. What till another 2-3 years and I can see the 5800x3d struggling with newer games. There's no point downgrading, IMO dow grading yourself or stuff you own to afford other stuff should be a last measure resort ie you really need that money. At the end of the day its your choice, if you do downgrade the 5800x3d should be fine, just no point. In the long term it will cost you more.
