Consider moving to Ubuntu Desktop as your main computer for development purposes.
As the title indicates—I'm a Software Developer thinking about moving to an Ubuntu Desktop setup for my home workstation. This is my first time seriously considering Linux as a replacement for Windows.
I should mention I rarely play games on my PC, so it would mostly be for web app development with Docker, ML model work, and Unity game projects. I also use it for general tasks like browsing the web and emailing.
I’m evaluating a System76 Thelios, a Dell XPS, or even building from scratch. I already know Linux suits my workflow since I run Linux VMs and containers daily. However, I’m curious if there are experienced Linux desktop users in game development—especially those working with Unity or Unreal—and whether they have faced any challenges, particularly with GPU drivers.
Additionally, I’d appreciate hearing some reviews from long-term Linux desktop users. How does everyday life feel? Are there any frustrating aspects or unexpected benefits after getting started?
Thanks for your thoughts.
