I evaluated my options for upgrading my PC. The Ryzen 7 5800x paired with a B550 board seems promising, but I’m feeling less excited about AMD lately because of the high prices. Overclocking an Intel CPU is an easier alternative. Since you mentioned it’s not a workstation, I’d recommend considering the Ryzen 7 5800x if you want performance gains without the complexity. If you prefer something more affordable and straightforward, an Intel CPU would be a solid choice.

Wait for the independent reviews to be released before making a choice. Avoid purchasing a new CPU or relying solely on AMD's marketing claims.

I was thinking about delaying the purchase until December.

Zen 3 offers superior performance compared to other Intel CPUs, which explains its higher cost. At least this is what AMD mentioned, and I’m impressed by the results of Zen 3.

Reviewing the announced prices, the 5800x has the lowest cost. The 5900x offers the best value for its performance or price. It's usually not wise to purchase technology at release—Intel may lower prices later to stay competitive, or Ryzen 5000 could see a slight reduction after launch, possibly both.

If the figures are just a little off, it won’t matter. You won’t get another 15% extra just by using regular OCs from Intel CPUs.

Consider 5900x might be too much.

Hey team, keep the Ryzen running. We’ve got an AMD Ryzen 5 1600 and it’s time for a boost. Avoid jumping to a Ryzen 9 unless you really need it.

Relies on your needs and the compatibility of other parts with Zen3. Switching from a Ryzen 5 1600 to a 5600X would significantly boost performance for both gaming and work tasks. It’s wise to monitor whether AMD plans new non-X processors or if Intel will lower prices on their i7 and i9 lines. Although the 5000 series seems appealing, I’m not planning an upgrade for my 3600 just yet since I don’t use it fully. If your 1600 meets your requirements, it’s better to wait for a better deal.
