Intel i7-8700 American Megatrends p1.00 3/20/18 b360 xtreme (ASRock) 16GB ADATA DDR4 xpgz1 Thermal take 600W 80 Plus. Recently installed a Samsung 970 Plus and faced problems installing GeForce/NVidia drivers, which caused a blue screen and forced recovery of a brand new Windows 10 install after about an hour. After chatting with Nvidia, they suggested updating the BIOS first. I’ve only done this once before on an older Alienware laptop, with a tech support walkthrough over the phone. Looking into it, I’m on the first release (P1.00), which is version 4.20—feeling a bit left out. I’m unsure if updating is necessary or how risky it could be, especially considering the potential cost and hassle of a non-functional board. The only other option mentioned was checking the website for guidance on whether a normal-running PC should skip this step. Any advice or horror stories would be appreciated.
Use a USB flash drive connected to the back of the motherboard, and avoid touching anything during the update process.
Just avoid unplugging it during the update… it should be okay. And if it looks like it’s slow, give it some time. It’ll handle itself. If, by chance, your home power goes out while it’s working, you’ll need a new motherboard. But the chances of that happening are very small.
