Consider enhancing your I7 7700K with a performance boost.
Hello everyone, I'm seeking some guidance on upgrading my system. I've been out of the CPU scene for a while and need to decide the best path forward. My setup includes an Intel i7 7700k, 32GB of 3200MHz DDR4 RAM, and a 3070 processor. I enjoy playing a broad range of games, mostly shooters, running at 1440p with 165hz, and prefer keeping settings high whenever possible. I'm curious about the necessary upgrades to avoid bottlenecks on my GPU, and I'm open to spending a bit more if it makes sense. Additionally, I'm wondering whether switching to DDR5 would be beneficial right now or if sticking with my current RAM is sufficient. Thanks in advance for your help!
Looking for guidance on choosing a new PC? Consider a used build with a Ryzen 5000 or Intel 12th gen processor, and skip DDR5 until it’s more stable. This approach saves costs and gives you flexibility. Let me know if you need help finding a location or budget-friendly options!
I'm based in Canada, and budget flexibility is important to me. I'm searching for something that complements my GPU while maximizing performance without overspending. With around 800 CAD available, I can stretch the budget further if the performance gains are substantial. Of course, I'm not aiming to spend everything unless it's essential.
That budget allows for a used 12700k/5800x3d configuration with full specs of your current system, including PSU and cooler. You might only need to swap the motherboard and CPU, and everything else can stay the same—just consider cooling if it isn’t compatible or lacks mounting points.
The most dangerous purchase among used items would be GPUs. CPUs pose almost no risk since their failure rate is practically zero. The rest of the used goods tend to be safe, either because they rarely experience random failures like CPUs, or because people typically avoid low-value items such as storage or parts often shunned due to fearmongering about things like PSUs.
Sure, just to clarify, apart from that, there aren't many options on the used market nearby without needing a long drive, which is another reason I favor new.
If you're curious, the price ranges from about $30 to $3,000 (allah's will). With a 10-phase DDR4 board, this setup offers the best balance of new features and future upgrades.
