Hello, Looking to get a U7 Pro XGS for my home, currently there's poor wifi coverage from the ISP's router and no hardwire thoroughout the property. Can I just plug this straight from the ISP's router or I need to get something extra? In in the future I plan to hardwire around the property with fiber and copper as I plan to add a NAS accessible by all in the storage room where the ISP network comes through. What bridge and switch should I look for from ubiquity, I think 10Gbps is a bit much to edit 4k videos directly from the NAS while watching 4k movies and downloading from internet but sounds like fun to get and install. Fiber is for overkill and copper for compatibility, the price of a roll of fiber is also quite insignificant compared to the price of hardwiring it within the ceiling and walls so best do it at the same time . Cloud Gateway Fiber & Pro XG 8 PoE? I'm out of my depth here but happy to overkil as long as it makes sense Thanks

They chose the u7 xgs because it handles the business environment well, especially in places like airports where strong Wi-Fi is crucial. You could start with a simpler model and add more later if needed. A PoE switch will handle power, and you don’t need to go all-in on Ubiquiti. For the rest, gigabit speeds are sufficient right now, and 2.5Gbps is affordable, so upgrading to 10Gbps in 30 years makes sense if required.

Too many wifi access points around here. Also there's already availability for 10Gbps internet so slightly futureproofing but in reality only for the direct access to the NAS at this time. I think considering the short distance I might somehow manage to wire it into the hallway (have got fake ceiling so would have to pull the cable through a downlight hole somehow then make a hole for it and pull it down) it would give better results being centered to the building than from one tenth of it from one side. I'd be doing it out of hobby, passing time and waste some $$$. The XGS is not so expensive but if I need to get a gateway and switch it's growing in price. The most I get on the laptop is 450Mbps unless I move next to the wifi when I get about 910Mbps, similar results with the phone. It's sad to pay for 1Gbps if I don't get it at my devices... older building so no cat wires in the wall... yet. Phone is already wifi7 and laptop just needs a bit of tinkering to replace the wifi card with one from Qualcomm. All this sounds like fun to do, so why not? but I do want to know if I'm getting the right things. Although if I do get wires done from network all the way to the PC the U7 XG sounds like a more economical solution as at that time I will no longer need to worry about 4x4 or 2x2.

The reason I’m okay with the XGS is because the u7 3 pack costs about 70 USD more :p. It works well with hundreds of clients, but you’ll still face interference. The XGS is suited for a particular purpose, and your needs don’t match that. You just need a PoE switch, and that’s all. Just connect it and then get some decent but affordable APs. It’s better to have a few solid APs spread around than one that won’t reach everyone fast. As far as Wi-Fi goes, don’t expect gigabit everywhere unless you have an AP in every room. Once there’s a wall, it usually drops back to 5Gbps for better penetration.

You only need the AP and a power source. Options include a POE switch or an injector/adapter—no gateway required. The APs will set up through the Unifi network app on your PC. After setup, you can turn them off or close the PC. Ubquiti’s UI is the main interface in my network. I enjoy the hands-on part since I have two E7 routers at home. The design tool lets you sketch a floor plan, place APs, and check signal strength—though it’s not flawless. I think 10G POE switches are limited, but this might just match what I need.
