We haven't seen very detailed comparisons between DDR4 and DDR5, especially for high-speed models. A DDR4 kit around 4000MHz or above will likely perform similarly to standard DDR5. In the recent WAN segment, Linus discussed the pros and cons of early DDR5 adoption—early buyers may miss out on peak performance, and RAM isn't treated as a critical core part.
You already have top-tier DDR4, so it makes sense to continue using it. Intel updates compatibility roughly every two generations, meaning even if DDR5 improves significantly, you’ll likely need to swap the motherboard for a newer CPU and can upgrade to DDR5 during that process. Right now, DDR4 remains a more cost-effective choice compared to DDR5. For a lower price, you can find premium DDR4 options such as the 4400MHz CL19, which will perform comparably to some of today’s better DDR5 models like the 5200MHz CL36.
Most games appear to perform better with high-speed, low-latency DDR4 than the average DDR5 you've noticed. I'd prefer DDR4 instead.
we haven't spotted the supertune 12600k yet, it should take some time, likely we'll wait for a better option. probably we'll get a 250w 5950x instead of the 250w 12900k. it's possible current ddr5 will catch up to ddr4 within a year. someone mentioned the cl36 6800 already, but what we see right now is just 5200 on newegg. at least no one is rushing into ddr5 just yet.
