I aim to set up Ubuntu alongside OS X. You mentioned you can install Linux on a USB stick or an external SSD. Which option do you think is better? Each has its advantages and disadvantages. I lean toward the external SSD because I want faster performance, and I already have two idle SSDs that could be used for this purpose.

I’m testing Ubuntu again since I’ve used it before—it felt comfortable. I’m fine with linking to an external drive all the time. I use my MacBook Pro connected via dock and external monitor. I’ll give it a shot once I get more comfortable with Linux. Appreciate the details!

Yes, installing it on an external SSD should keep your files on that drive safe. It won’t affect your main internal drive running macOS.

Yes, it remains on the SSD unless you decide to switch to the SSD where macOS is set up.
