Hi, I’m looking to upgrade my motherboard, CPU, and RAM. I’m not sure what parts to choose, but I’d appreciate your advice. My current setup is an Intel Core i5-4670K at 3.4 GHz, a Quad-Core processor cooler from Cooler Master, a Hyper 212 RGB cooler, an MSI Z87-G43 ATX motherboard, Corsair Vengeance 16 GB RAM, a Western Digital Green 480 GB SSD, and a Seagate Barracuda 2 TB drive. I also have an EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB GPU and a Cooler Master MWE Gold 650W power supply, which is certified 80+ Gold. I’m playing games and learning video editing, and I feel like my CPU and GPU might be limiting performance. Budget is around 600 USD or less. Updated: October 10, 2020 by BigJoe2020

It might vary based on your definition of a bottleneck. The CPU could be struggling due to limited thread handling because it’s running at 4/4 and can’t process enough tasks. Currently, the focus seems to be on costs like 6/12 or 8/16, which relates more to funding. The real issue is likely the budget situation.

this setup requires more CPU power than your GPU can handle. A 3090 would work fine. It should remain functional through 2025. I chose a motherboard with PCIe 4, M.2 4.0, Wi-Fi 6, and USB-C. Once I needed something cheaper, I opted for a budget option. The stock cooler for the 3700x is only moderate. If you still have the AM4 mount, it should fit. You could also purchase an AM4 cooler from the manufacturer or buy a new one if needed. There’s sufficient budget available. You don’t need an excessive cooler—just enough for performance. List the TDP for the 3700x is around 65W, but that’s not accurate. It’s closer to low 80s or possibly low hundreds if optimized. Saving around $200 could be possible by switching to the 3600X instead. That would reduce costs by about $200 or more on PCPartPicker listings.
