When setting up my new desktop, I already have a 1TB NVMe for the operating system, a 2TB NVMe for games and apps, and an 8TB HDD for data like photos, videos, and movies. I’m thinking about mirroring the OS drive. The other drives I’m okay with just backing up are fine because it’s simple enough, but I’ve had some issues recently with problems on the OS drive. It’s worth considering if it would help. Do you also use Raid on your machines? If so, what are you using it for?
In the consumer area, RAID is rarely the solution.
A solid automated backup system is usually sufficient.
My primary setup uses an incremental backup each night, covering every drive separately.
This keeps everything up to date within 24 hours.
I’ve even had to rely on it to recover after a failed drive and a virus outbreak.

I rely on Macrium Reflect.
Unfortunately, they've moved to a full paid version.
It costs $80 one-time.
But for me, it's worth it.
I purchased a license for my main system years back, free for the others.
Acronis TrueImage could be an alternative, but I'm not very comfortable with it.
Free is acceptable if it works, but paid is fine if it offers a better option. Also worth mentioning I have around five devices needing backup—my new desktop, the Plex server, and three laptops (my own, my wife's, and my son's). Support for phone or tablet backups isn't necessary since those are relatively recoverable.
Regarding cost, it's hard to estimate. Around $50-100? If it's a subscription, likely no more than $10-15 total per month. I don't require extra cloud storage since I already have sufficient space.
I'm also open to a complex or less user-friendly solution if that's acceptable. As a Software Engineer, I'm used to such scenarios.
