I question if the child will utilize RT (1080P plus first-person shooters), though the additional VRAM is beneficial and as you mentioned, the frames per second remain almost the same. The decision hinges on the cost of the card.
yes but just in case he will it´s nice to have some extra performance, he may also want to try FSR at some point and the 4.0 version is much superior to 3.0... of course it all depends on the street price, but amd would be crazy if this card would cost nearly as much as the 5060Ti 16gb. i think the price will be almost the same as the 7700xt, in which case 9060xt is a better option overall.
All parts aren’t perfect – not every component is "great", "the best", or "gamer approved". Prices range from 10 to 15 euros across various sites.

It might be useful to search for a used 3080 10/12/ti priced around 350-400. In the US they pay similar amounts in dollars and it offers superior performance and features. It has less VRAM compared to the 7700XT, but at 1080p 10gb should work well for several years.
Honestly, even compared to the 7800xt, I’d still think the 9060xt is worth considering due to its better build quality and potential for upgrades. It looks like things are heading that way, and the 9060xt will likely get support longer. Here’s a comparison someone shared: the 7800xt performs better in raw terms but isn’t a significant drop.
