The problem wasn't that the CPU core voltage was reaching excessive levels.
The problem stemmed from the CPU's SOC voltage being too high. The core voltage issue became critical after the CPU failed, as the VRM lacked overcurrent protection and could deliver excessive current to damage the substrate. Neither of these problems can be resolved by adjusting the core voltage setting.
According to @RONOTHAN##, the SoC voltage was mentioned earlier.
