I really question whether there’s a significant advantage in choosing the 9950X3D over the 9950X given their intended purposes. For the graphics card, it might be better to wait for something cheaper while keeping a PC operational. This is the list of priorities I’ve considered:
System Usage from Most to Least Important:
3D High level Rendering / Simulation work / Heavy RAM usage and GPU/CPU power required so threadripper most probably?
Apps:
Maya/Vray
Houdini
Unreal Engine
Photoshop
AfterEffects
Illustrator
Gaming
Outside of gaming, none of these programs seem to gain much from a 3D v-cache. Holding out for the 9950X3D would mean a long wait and uncertain gains compared to the current model. Approximate Purchase Date: ASAP
He mentioned a few software that improved with more cores previously. For those situations, it would be better to wait and get 9950X3D. Unlike the previous generation, this one offers a significant performance increase over even the standard 9950X. Thanks to the 3D v-cache, I’d like him to hold off if possible. Approximate purchase date is ASAP, but given the investment and the need for optimal setup, it’s worth waiting. Yes, 9800X3D is acceptable. Only proceed if unavoidable. If possible, waiting would be ideal.
No, there was something he mentioned that matched the benchmarks. I noticed the 3D V-cache boosted performance and also benefited from a higher core count. Also, I mentioned it outperformed the 9950X due to its v-cache design, which takes advantage of that. I believe this was the reason for the improvement in cases where v-cache made a difference. Core count and capacity matter, so combining both offers the best value. That’s what I aimed for.
So you have nothing but pure speculation on a future product based on the 9800X3D's performance. The 9950X will very likely perform better in tasks than the 9950X3D when the cache is doing nothing but holding clocks back compared to the 9950X. Very few, if any, production applications in the use case can take advantage of the main benefit of increased cache, and even in those cases we cannot know by how much until reviews come out. The 9950X will be equal to, or better than a 9950X3D in everything that does not benefit from the 3D cache, and that is the most charitable way of putting it. Worst case for the 9950X vs the upcoming 9950X3D would be cache sensitive work load, and the non-X3D part will probably do nearly as well in those tasks. All we can do is wait for reviews. The OP needs a PC ASAP and the meager gains in very few use cases over the 9950X don't warrant more than a month of waiting IMO.
