I have a Ryzen 5 2600 with the RTX 3070ti at 1440p and 2400MHz. I’m not having major problems except for some games like Elden Ring, which might be a bug. I’m not sure if upgrading is necessary since my CPU is only a year old and I don’t notice big differences in performance or PC health. I play casually 5-8 hours a week and use the computer a lot for school, especially multiplayer games. I’m considering a Ryzen 5 5600x and wondering if it’s worth the investment given my usage.
You'll get better performances in CPU bound games. Other than that, if you're ok with your current framerate and all, there really isn't any good reason to upgrade for your main purpose with this computer. It's not like you were a video editor and wanted faster render time or something. If it's just schoolwork and casual gaming, there's no point, literal waste of money. If you got the upgrade itch... You could just wait a bit longer for when the next generation of desktop CPUs come out later this year and these 5000 series chip will be even cheaper.
The approach used is quite outdated for today’s gaming landscape. Most titles needing a powerful GPU to run at full capacity become so heavily taxed that performance gains are minimal. With modern CPU counts, games should feel nearly identical to their high-end counterparts. Don’t waste time chasing upgrades if you’re already running a top-tier system—focus on other priorities.
Elden Ring is currently receiving updates, and significant changes are expected, which may not always translate to noticeable frame rate improvements from simple settings tweaks.
Given your 3070ti, it’s likely you don’t play at 1080p, so a faster CPU probably won’t affect frame rates much. Even if it did, your display’s refresh rate is likely sufficient to handle the output.
Most games that struggle with CPU power are outdated, and they tend to operate well above your monitor’s capabilities, making any difference negligible.
