This idea that games rely on very few cores is no longer accurate. It’s been several years since 2009, and today most modern games require at least six or twelve cores to run smoothly.

There seems to be an issue with the link—it needs a mod, which is straightforward but it's recommended to purchase a pre-made version. You can find good examples of mods there. Keep in mind you might need to adjust BIOS settings as well.

Uncertain about the price difference, but I bought a Q9505 from eBay for a reasonable cost before. It offers marginally faster clock speeds and is noticeably better than the E8400 I was using earlier. I’d consider a quad-core option since these CPUs lack hyperthreading, which could further affect performance.
