Consider 3900x or wait a month to receive the funds for a 3950x

I’d prefer buying the 3950x around Christmas, but I don’t have the funds for the RAM needed to go with it. Should I opt for the 3900x instead, or hold off until next month to get the RAM with the 3950x?

Is it really necessary for every system? Mostly gaming seems to be the main use, right? With your i7 8700K, you should be fine.

The i7 8700K should last another two years minimum. It might be worth investing more now for a top-of-the-line build later... who knows if Intel will switch to 10nm or 7nm? That could really change things.

You're likely to be quite let down by this change. My primary setup is for professional use, so I skipped the 12-core 3900X and got a 3800X despite heavy workloads. I only play on my i7 8700K. This upgrade offers minimal benefit from your CPU.

Manage your squirrel first. Your setup is okay. Shift attention to areas you can enhance. Leave the computer aside. The 8700K chip works well and delivers strong results. Why are people so obsessed with upgrades without a reason?
