There's spec and there's what it will usually handle and there's what you can get to work. Spec for a 4pin CPU connector is 100W. You can 100% reasonably expect it to take 150W. If you're pushing much past 200W you should be aware you're on the edge and if you're up to 250 you should have a 10+lb fire extinguisher and not leave it unattended. An 8 pin is just 2x4pins.
