Connectivity problems with your Custom NZXT PC.
Windows 11 Home Edition Gigabyte RTX 4080 i9-14900K 2TB m.2 MSI PRO Z790-A MAX WIFI DDR5 DDR5 6000MHz CL38 - 32 GB x 2 NZXT C1200 PCIE5 1200W Gold works perfectly on other devices in the house. However, this new PC struggles to maintain a stable connection. The motherboard supports Wi-Fi 7, and I’ve added an external antenna. I usually see speeds around 5MB/s for a brief moment, then it drops sharply to single-digit kilobytes and disconnects completely. The issue isn’t distance from the router—it’s just one floor above it, and this machine is placed exactly where the previous one was. My partner has used her PC all day without problems, so the problem isn’t weak signal. I’ve tried shutting down the PC and unplugging it for ten minutes, and searched online for driver updates, but haven’t found anything. The Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 Wi-Fi 7 HBS adapter is installed, and the WLAN AutoConfig service appears to be running correctly. I’m unsure about my router model—it’s the newest Spectrum model supporting up to 1GB/s. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Downloaded and set up everything compatible with my system, but performance remains poor and it shuts down unexpectedly.
In devicemanager you select your Wi-Fi device and it prompts to connect via: some device. Press confirm there, then in the advanced options you’ll see settings mentioning 802.11be, which indicates Wi-Fi 7. Wi-Fi 6 is 802.11ac and Wi-Fi 5 corresponds to 802.11n. Based on your router’s capabilities and age, you can choose to disable 802.11be or switch to Wi-Fi 6 or AC for better performance.
Rob Chil offers a great idea, probably the best one I see. Do you have the most recent UEFI from MSI? You can check your version by running this command in PowerShell: Get - CimInstance Win32_BIOS | Format - List - Property SMBIOSBIOSVersion, Manufacturer, Name, Version. The latest UEFI for your motherboard was released on November 10th and includes important updates. If the Wi-Fi adapter OROM is updated, it might fix the problem.
Confirmed, the issue was resolved. It turns out the router doesn't actually support Wi-Fi 7 as claimed by their support team—it's still Wi-Fi 6E. The download speeds appear to lag behind my older setup despite the newer hardware, which is unusual.
