I own NewWave, the top high-speed internet option nearby. My standard plan offers 100 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload. The problem is, my online gaming consistently struggles. Latency usually stays between 20 ms and 80 ms, but recently it’s jumped to 34 ms to 600 ms or more. This causes noticeable lag, making it hard to compete in ranked games. I’m planning to work remotely soon with a VM connection, which adds another layer of complexity.

I’ve already tried several fixes: resetting the router, disconnecting and reconnecting it, and contacting tech support—each time they suggested the same steps. My device isn’t alone; other devices in the house are affected too. The connection is wired Ethernet, and I’ve verified all cables, including the coaxial link to the router. Ping tests from various devices show consistent high latency, and no packet loss was detected during testing.

The 10 Mbps download speed is far below expectations, especially when trying to stream or use voice apps. While the advertised maximum is 10 Mbps, the actual performance is minimal. I’m not open to switching areas just for better speeds, and I’ve already mentioned this limitation during previous calls.

Before you hear more generic “upgrade your plan” advice, I want to emphasize that this is my current best option for speeds over 20 Mbps via DSL. I’m not ready to relocate just for improved connectivity.

These tools are providing consistent results, though they’re not meeting expectations. My download speed is consistently higher than advertised, around 105–110 mbps, while upload speeds sit between 3 and 5 mbps. Test latency is only measured once, showing values between 10–30 ms depending on location. A ping test over about 20 attempts reveals noticeable latency spikes. It looks like the recent drops in internet activity around 1:50 AM might be the cause. I’m not sure if it’s related to reduced traffic or something else. Typically, I see these spikes between 8:30 PM and midnight, when I’m at home testing, relaxing, or playing games before bed.

Usage might be elevated in your vicinity; have there been any recent constructions in your area?
