I thought a complete reinstall was needed to fix things. Once everything was reset, my internet speed stayed below 1Mb/s, which is much lower than my usual 400–500 Mbps. After updating the latest network drivers for my motherboard and checking with speedtest.net or fast.com, I got around 400–500 Mbps. It’s confusing—how can a test show such a high speed while my actual downloads only reach 1Mb/s? I’ve checked my network card settings and run tests multiple times; everything seems normal. I’m really confused and worried something might be blocking the connection. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I’ve been struggling all day and feel like I might lose my progress. Thanks!

Use crystaldiskinfo and crystaldiskmark on the storage device you're employing to store your files

Thank you for the response. My drives are functioning properly. The issue seems to be related to downloading rather than installation speed. I've also attempted to download various files to separate drives, but the results remain consistent. The tests from crystaldiskmark are also working well.

Update DNS server to 8.8.8.8 or OpenDNS. Search for instructions online.

Check the connection details in the network and sharing center. The reported speed should be listed as "1.0Gbps," which aligns with your typical performance of about 500mbps.

Are you experiencing 1Mbps only from certain sites or a particular app? If speed tests claim 400-500Mbps, it’s likely not your network card or drivers. Could the servers you’re linking to be slow or your routing configuration be faulty? Please share links and examples of downloads that are lagging.

Sure, I can provide the latest Speedtest.net and Fast.com scores. Please note that I can't attach screenshots directly here, but I’ll describe how to capture them for clarity.

I think the issue might be related to my internet service provider. I've tested it using Ethernet on another laptop and Wi-Fi across three different networks, but the speed remains around 400 to 500 Mbps. Despite that, nothing inside the house reaches that level. It feels like we're hitting a cap, and they're likely throttling our connection now. It's possible they can't do this anymore, though I'm just looking for more details. Netherlands, Noord-Brabant – I'll reach out to my ISP and share more info later. Thanks for the advice!
