You recently replaced your router due to a company upgrade, adding 1Gbps download and 50Mbps upload speeds. While gaming, your latency spiked to 600ms. Speed tests initially showed 500 download, but when Chrome was closed and only Chrome ran, speeds matched expectations (930 down 50 up). Opening another window or playing YouTube also restored normal speeds. The company confirmed the modem and router were misaligned; a technician resolved it. Testing with a game open confirmed the issue still occurred. I attempted troubleshooting via CMD but it didn’t help. Is this related to your new router, or is there another cause? Let me know how you’d like to proceed.

Connect the modem to your PC and run additional tests. This will assist in identifying whether the issue lies with the new router or with the ISP's service.

The black box in the basement has no Ethernet connections available. It's not possible to connect directly to it.

Hey are you using wifi or eithernet if wifi there are some janky things with wifi if ethernet then 2 possibilities Problem with the pc or maybe with your router. The routers is maybe throttling make sure it remains cool. another tip try the same thing with another system. And another tip which is pretty jank but actually true, I had a laptop with spinning rust(hdd) it really did that but when i upgraded the hdd to ssd that thing just went away like my reaction was that is that for real. like when I used to run speed test task manager used to show that spiky graph while speedtesting but now that thing has just vanished. Cheers

Check the connections between your devices. Who provides your internet service? What models do your modem and router (and any other networking gear) have? How are they linked together? For example, does the internet go straight to the modem, then to a wireless router that uses Ethernet? When you test speeds, are you using Wi-Fi? Are others accessing the network at the same time?
