When using the Kingston A400 SSD as a boot device, it may stop responding when saving big files because of its DRAM-free design. Switching to a higher-quality option such as Samsung 970, 980, Crucial P310 or a WD drive with DRAM should fix the issue.

Thank you for your reply! I'll definitely give it another shot, but I'm short on funds for a new SSD right now (student). If I had known earlier, I wouldn't have replaced my motherboards. Appreciate the tip! How would you like to mark this as resolved?

I've frequently faced the same challenge with Steam downloads, thinking it was my internet speed. Could this be an issue with all DRAM-less SSDs? I own a WD Blue SN570.

DRAM-free SSDs don't include cache found in models with DRAM. Although they might avoid some slowdowns during big writes, it's typical for them to behave similarly.
