I own a Zyxel router. I don’t remember the precise model, but it supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. When connected to the 5GHz network in my living room, speeds are around 150 Mbps on a bad day, 230–250 Mbps under normal conditions, and up to 310 Mbps during good days. My PC is too far from the router, so I can’t use Wi-Fi. Because of that, I’m considering Ethernet as an alternative. I’m unsure if it will deliver the same performance. This post aims to find out what speed to expect with Ethernet. I’m hoping for roughly 300 Mbps, similar to my PS4’s experience without the LAN cable. Also, since my NAT is strict (type 3), that should be taken into account.

You decide whether to connect the Ethernet directly to the router or extend it throughout the house, but the speed will remain consistent.

What you're paying for determines the value. For 300Mbps, you expect 300 Mbps via Ethernet. For 500Mbps, you should receive 500 Mbps.

I recall using the powerline adapter, specifically a TP-Link model. It severely restricted my download speeds to just 20 Megabits per second. I’m hoping the issue won’t repeat when pairing directly.

I understand. I’ll do my best to persuade my parents to let me install a long cable throughout the house.
