I've been experiencing some strange problems with my GTX 1060 for a few days now. The GPU seems to disconnect unexpectedly, causing the screen to go completely black after the PC boots. It can happen during startup, after a short while, or even after an hour. When playing games, I can still hear the sound, but when I press keys or hit the keyboard, only the Windows error noises are audible. I'm not sure what's going on and wonder if my graphics card is failing.
It could be a failing fan with overheating or a loose connection in the slot. I’d remove the case cover, verify the fit and engage the catch, then monitor fan speeds using hdwinfo64. If it’s hot, I’d replace the cooler and reapply paste. It might simply be nearing the end of its life. This device is quite old. Edited September 8, 2022 by Bombastinator
