Connection issue with a particular laptop to a more advanced access point
Hi Everyone, I’m checking if anyone has faced a similar issue. I have a laptop placed between two access points that share the same SSID for both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. It only connects to one of them no matter how strong the signal is. When I move the laptop close to one access point, it still works with the weaker signal from the other. For the other laptops, I notice two different SSIDs for each access point, but this one consistently shows the one with the stronger signal. I’ve tried toggling the adapter settings, putting the laptop in airplane mode, and restarting it, but nothing helps. The access points are from ASUS, and I’m using the roaming assistant with a -70 dbm threshold. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Manually add the wireless network to your PC and observe whether it prefers the nearest or the recognized one. Also, verify if the automatic connection setting is disabled on the detected network.
I don't believe that. The laptop can link to both 2.4GHz and 5GHz access points. At the very least, I should be able to reach the closer 2.4GHz network if the 5GHz one isn't available.
Identified the issue. It seems older Intel wireless drivers have compatibility problems with Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax). Appreciate the feedback.
