Are you linked to your home network? Is this a device provided by school? It’s likely your Xbox Live multiplayer account has privacy settings turned off. You can access it via Xbox.com and adjust the privacy options. Under Privacy, select Xbox One or Windows 10 Online Safety and ensure "You can join multiplayer games" is enabled.
