My main desktop stays linked to the router directly with an Ethernet cable. Often I encounter the "Unidentified network no internet access error" which can persist for days. I can still browse the web using wireless connections without problems. I've tried resetting the router multiple times—plugging it in and out—but nothing works. I don’t want to rely on a wireless card as a fix. Appreciate any advice you can offer.

Launch your device manager, locate your Ethernet card, right-click it, select uninstall drivers, restart the system and check if the issue is fixed.

What kind of NIC are you using? Have you attempted to find the drivers from the manufacturer and try installing them?

It's built into your motherboard. With a 4th generation Intel CPU, no new drivers have been released recently.

If the network cable connectors are loose or the internal wire doesn’t properly touch the pins, the link might switch between full and half speed or jump from high to low speeds. This can cause your router or modem to behave erratically and potentially crash. Factors like pulling on the cable, heat from nearby devices, or physical damage can trigger these issues. Also, ensure you haven’t accidentally bent or pressed on the cable. Inspect the cable for any signs of wear or breakage. If needed, replace it with a new one—it’s usually inexpensive for a 10-foot length.
