I've been attempting to link my father's old Dell Latitude (built in 2000) to the internet using two approaches: a wireless setup and an Ethernet connection via his Windows 10 desktop. The wireless method isn't working because the router uses WPA2 security, which the laptop doesn't recognize—it only supports WPA and older protocols. I'm unsure how to adjust the laptop's settings or use a flash drive to change the protocol. This device is still functional but shows signs of wear, like a slightly tinted screen at startup. In short, the 2000 Windows XP laptop can't connect via WPA2, but it might work with a different method. Updated February 23, 2018 by Orion Spectre – possibly misread WEP as WPA.

For practical use, avoid it. If you want something better, consider a newer wireless card. Regarding Ethernet, what settings did you set on the desktop?

I simply linked both Ethernet ports, skimmed through a few unrelated manuals, experimented with the network options, and then gave up.

In the computer, enable sharing of Wi-Fi on the Ethernet port and then link the laptop. On the laptop, reset all settings to the standard configuration.

This involved adjusting the settings to restore Wi-Fi functionality, and I was focused on enabling Ethernet sharing throughout the process. It’s clear I’m still working through the details.

Open Network Devices in Windows 10. Click on your Wi-Fi adapter and select properties. Verify the laptop is linked to the desktop and powered on. What appears next?

I'm currently not at home; I'm just using the high school forum during my free time. Apologies if it wasn't clear earlier—I really appreciate your help!
