Connection drops unexpectedly to a restricted state
In recent days my computer has experienced intermittent internet slowdowns. The Ethernet icon in the taskbar shows a yellow triangle, appearing 1 to 3 times daily for about 2 to 10 seconds before resuming normal operation. Often I’m engaged in gaming or browsing Chrome and then lose connection only to reconnect shortly afterward. I’ve already attempted numerous solutions such as restarting the PC, resetting the router, updating firmware, refreshing Windows, checking BIOS settings, performing IP releases/renewal, running a netsh winsock reset via CMD, updating drivers, clearing network adapter entries in Device Manager, scanning for hardware changes, running malware scans, using the built-in network troubleshooter, ensuring power-saving mode isn’t enabled, and even testing with a different Ethernet cable. Have you encountered any of these steps and found them effective?
Verify your network connection... heat management in cables may lead to loose wires at jacks, resulting in unstable speeds between 100mbps and 1 gbps. Alternatively, accidental pressure or improper seating could affect performance. A simple solution is swapping the Ethernet cable. Inspect each port carefully—look at the Ethernet connector in your PC’s back panel to ensure pins move freely without being bent permanently. Occasionally, slight oxidation can reduce contact quality. If you power off the device and gently rub the pins with cotton soaked in isopropyl alcohol or sanitizing wipe, it might help. In extremely rare instances, a router or modem adapter may degrade from overheating, causing random resets or glitches. These issues usually point more toward a faulty Ethernet cable rather than hardware failure.
With a laptop, link it straight to the router and perform a ping test to check if the problem lies with your Internet service or router.
