Hi! I just moved into a new apartment and the Wi-Fi is already set up. The problem is my tower computer doesn’t have a built-in Wi-Fi card, so it needs to be connected via cable, but I don’t have access to the router. Anyone got a solution?

if you own a laptop, you might connect it to a Wi-Fi adapter via an Ethernet cable. this isn’t ideal, but it works.

You're asking about physical access to the router. It could mean you can't reach it directly or it's too far for a cable connection. If the latter, consider Powerline adapters. If the former, you might need a WiFi adapter for your PC—either USB or PCIe (PCIe is best). Alternatively, get a router with wireless bridge support so devices can connect via Wi-Fi and use wired links for faster communication.

I attempted to purchase a USB Wi-Fi adapter, but it didn't function properly at all.

Did the USB Wi-Fi adapter you’re using be a budget model? You should still be able to connect to your wireless signal through your phone. Your experience with Netgear AC1200 USB adapters means you can likely find similar options affordable on sites like eBay or in stores.

I got a brand new one from Newegg—it’s a bit affordable but should function well! And the Wi-Fi on my phone is really strong.

It seems the Wi-Fi frequency it's using might be different from what you expect. Likely, it's broadcasting on 2.4GHz or 5GHz. The 802.11ac standard is common in newer setups, while your adapter could be an older 802.11a/b/g/n device. This model is a USB 3.0 device.
