Connecting to a network folder via a switch using Wi-Fi
Hello everyone, I’m looking to purchase a switch to achieve gigabit speeds for local file transfers without changing my router. Currently, I’m using an ISP router with just one port, which only supports 100mbps. My setup allows me to share a network from my PC and access it via MX Player on my Android phone. The main issue is configuring the new switch so that I can still open a network share while keeping a device connected that isn’t linked to the switch. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
The router handles the connection as long as the switch is linked to it, requiring no further action from you. But because the E900 supports only 100Mbps on its ports, any device plugged into the router will be restricted to that speed. Typically, devices connected to the 1Gbps switch can achieve around 1Gbps when sharing files.
It sounds like you're wondering about the expected speeds between devices using a switch. Generally, a 1Gbps connection over a switch is common, while a 100Mbps link between a phone and a computer is typical for wired setups.
