I managed to bypass the strict control from the school’s IT team and obtained the main router’s password. For roughly two weeks, I enjoyed solid internet connectivity, but eventually everyone I shared it with was restricted from the network. The guest Wi-Fi has been functional for about a month, though it’s now inconsistent—likely because many students use it to save data. I have two potential solutions, each with its own challenges.

1. I could try using the school-provided Chromebook as a hotspot, but I’m unsure how to activate that setting in the menu.
2. Another option would be to employ Android’s tether feature or similar tools to turn my unlimited data plan into a Wi-Fi hotspot. Unfortunately, this is blocked by my service provider for the plan I have, leaving me with limited choices. Perhaps there’s an alternative I haven’t considered. My teacher emphasized the importance of utility over form, which made sense, but she doesn’t realize that despite the higher cost of MacBooks, they’ve provided significantly better value than any Chromebook has offered in the past four years. It’s become more frustrating to revert to a Chromebook now than it is worth. That’s not her responsibility, and I understand why she might not be aware of this. Since I’m still learning networking basics, your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

This suggestion has some concerns. We actually had the chance to switch to a Chromebook at the start of the year, but I didn’t own one. The main issue is that many apps I rely on aren’t available on it. Having a dedicated device for assignments would be important to me. While desktops are used in class with these apps, working outside the allotted time isn’t feasible. I also heard the reason for special access was a past press conference about tech improvements, which didn’t provide enough bandwidth that day. It felt like a shortcut was needed, and I’m not sure if a backdoor is acceptable.
