Connected my external graphics card
Connected my external graphics card
I have a Mini Bmax 5 Pro equipped with a Ryzen 7 5825u. CPU and GPU1-2. My aim is to connect an external GPU to my PC. The parts I need are: GameMax 850w plus power supply, PCI-e adapter, and riser cable. So, (A) I will connect the CPU 8 pin wire from my power supply to the graphics card. Now that same wire is inserted into the external graphics card, it has a split, allowing me to attach it to my PCIE? (This wire is 6 + 2 and fits into the PCIe slot.)
(B) I now have a wire resembling HDMI plugged into the PCIe port and positioned under the cover of my mini PC. I plan to insert the M.2 cable, which appears to be shaped like a computer chip on the tip. I’ll start from the right side and fit it into the "computer board extender" – I’m not sure what that name is, but it seems it’s for add-on modules. There’s a thin foil-like wire at the bottom of the PC where I’ll insert the M.2 cable. It says “Facing Up,” and I’ll begin from the right side. It looks small, but I expect different M.2 slots and sizes. When I insert it, I need to ensure the mini PC stays stable so the M.2 doesn’t fall out.
© Now I have the riser cable connecting the graphics card to the PCIe device. *Question:* Should I still connect the 12 pin cable from my power supply into the PCIe port? Because it came with a wire that converts it into an 8 pin cable, and I have an open 8 pin female slot on the PCIe.
I’m assuming I just need to download the driver for my graphics card. Please let me know if anything I mentioned is incorrect. I tried to explain everything in detail. If you need any further information to assist me, feel free to share. Thank you all.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Which product do you have in your collection?
For reference, I checked the NUC lineup:

What cable or port are you referring to? There doesn’t appear to be a direct option for adding an external GPU. Could you describe the riser cable you’re using?
Since you’re just starting out, it would help if you shared photos of what you see so we can avoid any damage during installation.
It's hard to say without a full parts list. I don't notice multiple M.2 slots on the B5 Pro. Did you mean to use a SATA drive for the system? What GPU are you considering? Which external GPU adapter would you like?
Hello everyone , before I go and pay someone to fix this since its been sitting in the box for a few months now ( I will check the warranty but I think it over).
I have a Gamemax 850 Plus power supply that has never been used. I just wanted to make sure that it works . So I plugged it in and nothing is happening knor any lights going on.
There is a switch in the back to turn it ON/OFF , I have pressed it in both directions and nothing is going on. I don't know if the wires to connect it to the Graphics card or to the PCIE have to be connected in order for it to turn on, which I don't think that has to be the case. If anyone can help me to figure out the issue? I have no electricity issues in my place. Everything works and my power does not go out or glitch. But lets say for example , i have a lot of devices hooked onto the outlet and its running good with no issues, but I know if I put another Mini Doge 3 miner there , then the breaker will pop. If I add a lamp or a couple small things, everything will be fine but another Doge miner will trip the outlet. Could it be that, possibly not getting enough electricity? I have tried to plug in the power supply somewhere else that I don't have my Miners hooked up to, say another outlet that is on a different breaker than the miners, and it still wont go on?? Sorry for the little long explanation, I'm just trying to give you the best details on everything to help you better understand everything.
Thank you again for your time and help.
I've checked too and haven't found anything. So, are you wondering if you can install a graphics card in this mini PC?
The PSU needs to be linked to something such as a motherboard or a tester to activate the power-on feature. If it's a motherboard, it should be properly connected and must have memory, CPU, and GPU (even integrated ones) for the system to boot, showing the PSU is working. You can also try the paper clip method (searching for a YT video). Simply plugging in and adjusting the switch won't help—make sure the switch is active to verify functionality.
I think you are missing the main question. What are you trying to plug in to what? What GPU are you trying to use?
PSU is probably overkill, but also not a brand I would particularly choose.
The key is know how much power this external GPU adapter is intended to use. You mentioned plugging in an 8-pin CPU power cable, which is generally a 336W max connector, while GPUs typically use an 6+2 8-pin connector rated at 150W. If one is to power the adapter, and the other to power the GPU directly, yes, that is likely the correct way. But you can't plug CPU power into consumer GPUs, all 12V, but the wire configuration is different.
If this is an M.2 adapter, your OS is likely installed on an M.2 drive in the system. You could swap over to using a SATA drive, as there appears to be room for one 2.5" drive. But I don't see two M.2 slots, so something will have to change to make this work at all.
I don't think there will be room to reassemble the unit with the M.2 adapter installed, as the cable will have to come out somewhere.
