I recently assembled a PC and encountered issues during an RGB sync. My case fans failed to respond, prompting me to connect a 5V connector to a 12V ARGB header which caused damage (smoke from the header). Later, the RGB lighting on my CPU cooler ceased functioning. All fans are operational now, though the lights on them are off. I'm using the fan hub from the Asus Tuf GT301. Specs: Ryzen 7 5800X, ASRock X670e Pro RS, 32GB DDR5 at 6000MHz, 2TB NVMe storage.

It's damaged, see you later. You can fit a 12V fan into a 5V circuit, it will operate at half power, but not vice versa.

I really care about you all, but it seems there might be an issue with the system or hardware. Did something go wrong?

It was probably the LEDs or the circuitry inside the fans that caused the issue. The motherboard seems okay.

Fixed the issue—turns out the argb fan controller failed. I’m currently connecting most of my fans and holding off on the new controller until it arrives.

I realize this is an old thread, but I did the exact same thing as the op and Google lead me here. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one lol. Luckily my rgb still works when plugged into the mb header, I only fried the controller. For 20 on Amazon I got some fan splitters and argb splitters and I'm just going to not use a secondary hub and use onboard mb rgb instead.
