You can boot Linux on your MacBook Air 2020 using a USB drive with the appropriate ISO image. The T2 chip itself doesn’t block this process, but ensure your Mac’s macOS is updated and you have the correct installation media.

You can start from an external drive and even perform a complete Linux installation from there, but you won’t be able to boot Linux from or use the internal storage while running externally.
