Connect both routers to the identical network link.
I've encountered many jargons while diving into networking, but it feels a bit overwhelming. I own two Huawei routers—one spare (HG8246H) and another for our Wi-Fi last week (HG8245W5). Since my upstairs roommates can't connect to the Wi-Fi, I'm trying to set up an access point using the spare with an Ethernet cable. Could anyone provide some guidance?
Ok then... Huawei won’t let you view the manual or quick start guide without logging in with an account... anyway most routers have an option to set it up in Access Point mode. I don’t have any experience with Huawei routers though so I wouldn’t know where to find it in settings or if they even have such a mode.
I researched the steps you mentioned and found similar information. I reset the device, switched the LAN IP to 192.168.1.200, and disabled DHCP. The router appeared to crash, making it impossible to reach the admin panel or connect at all. The IP address didn’t appear to be discoverable. You might want to try another router you have on hand for testing.
After disabling DHCP, connect it to your primary router through a LAN port on the second device, not the WAN port, to allow your computer to receive an IP address since the second router is now inactive.
