Connect AT&T fiber to Luxul's wired router
Hello everyone! Here’s a quick update for peace of mind about my plans tomorrow. To summarize, my cousin recently moved into a new home about three years ago. She installed a Luxul router with two Ubitquti access points. After switching her ISP from Charter to AT&T Fiber 1000, the installation team replaced everything with just the AT&T gateway, even though she wanted the Luxul router and WAPs to remain active. Now she has an att gateway and access points that create three separate networks: one from the main gateway, and the guest network broadcast via the WAPs. What’s puzzling is that the WAPs are still working despite only changing the Ethernet cables. They have Ethernet and coaxial jacks throughout the house, all feeding into a patch panel.
For my own setup, I’m following a tutorial at https://youtu.be/3Q0Q2alkzcY. She has five AT&T U-verse receivers (IPTV). The forum suggested keeping these receivers on the gateway for authentication. My approach is to switch the WAP cables back to the Luxul router and replace the 5-port switch with an 8-port one, since the technician installed a 5-port switch that only fits four TVs—leaving one directly connected to the att gateway.
I have some questions: Should the Luxul router and WAPs need reprogramming after just being unplugged and then reconnected? Essentially, I’m trying to restore everything as it was before the switch. I’d really appreciate any feedback from others who use this site—please let me know if my plan works or if I should revert changes. Thanks a lot! - Kevin
Kevin H9 suggests it makes sense. Once the Ubiquiti APs are active, start the UniFi Controller to install updates and verify the configurations match your requirements.
Uncertain about compatibility with TV service. However, AT&T gateways typically need a pass-through mode to route public IPs and all ports to a router. I’m not sure it applies to TV services either.
